LADOT Issues Cease & Desist Letter to Illegal Taxi Apps
LADOT stands by Taxi Industry as Los Angeles area taxicab drivers protest unregulated and unsafe high-tech bandit cabs
Los Angeles, CA: Hundreds of Los Angeles area taxicab drivers joined together and drove around City Hall to protest unregulated, illegal taxi apps such as Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar.
Councilmember Bill Rosendahl, President of the Transportation Committee, and Councilmember Paul Koretz, member of the Transportation Committee, spoke at the press conference.
LADOT General Manager Jaime De La Vega on Monday June 24, 2013 issued a cease and desist letter to illegally operating transportation companies including Uber, Lyft, and Sidecar who do not meet City of Los Angeles licensing standards and have been shown to have questionable public safety practices.
Taxicab drivers are mobilizing this rally to urge the Transportation Committee to recognize that high-tech bandit cabs operating as rideshare alternatives are illegal, unsafe, and unregulated. Drivers for Uber, Lyft, & Sidecar are not required to pass background checks or have their vehicles inspected for safety.
“These rogue taxis are bypassing all safety regulations created to protect riders and drivers,” said William Rouse, General Manager of Los Angeles Yellow Cab. “Not only are these high-tech bandit cabs unsafe, they are breaking regulatory standards and disenfranchising safe, legal taxi drivers.”
LA Yellow Cab has always and will always be committed to serving the public. We recognize that compliance with LADOT regulations is essential when it comes to Public Safety. We are appreciative of the millions of customers who have and continue to use our service.
The issue will come before the Transportation Committee on Wednesday, June 26 at 2:00 pm.

Children are officially home for the summer, which means now is the time to start planning their summer vacations! A lot of children travel alone to visit family over the summer while their parents stay at home to keep working. If your child will be traveling alone this summer, help him stay comfortable and safe by hiring a taxi from LA Yellow Cab.
Provide a Friendly Face at the Airport
Traveling can be stressful and overwhelming for children—especially when they are traveling alone. That is why it is important to provide a friendly face to greet your child after he arrives at the airport. When you hire a taxi, you can feel confident that the driver will arrive at the airport on time and provide excellent service for your child.
Offer Your Child a Safe and Familiar Form of Transportation
Children may not be comfortable taking unfamiliar forms of transportation such as trains, buses, or other similar vehicles. Make sure your child is comfortable after his arrival to Los Angeles by giving him a safe and familiar form of transportation that will remind him of the family vehicle. A taxi provides the perfect environment for children traveling on their own.
Avoid Confusion by Giving Your Child a Solid Plan
Taxis drive straight to the airport in order to provide immediate service to their clients. This is a great choice for a child who will be arriving to the airport without a travel partner. If your child has to find his way to a bus station, he may get confused or lost. Taxi service makes it easy for children to stay safe while traveling alone.
Make Sure Your Child Gets to His Destination
Unlike other forms of transportation, taxis bring passengers all the way to their destination. Make sure your child gets to your relative’s home by choosing a taxi service instead of a bus or train that would take him to a station.
Select the best taxi service for your child by choosing LA Yellow Cab! Our drivers are trained to provide the best service for every situation, including children who are traveling alone for social visits. Call us at (877) 733-3305 for more information.
